Featured Edition
"24 Expressions Opus 33"
Released in May, 2003, this addition to The Schultz Piano Library provides a unique and extremely valuable opportunity for the growth and progress of the intermediate pianist. Each of the 24 pieces is devoted to a primary expressive quality, indicated by the work’s title. Several important elements of Schultz’s writing contribute to the success of this valuable student edition. The pieces are highly focused and of very moderate length, with none longer than two pages. Each piece is composed with a patterned motive that remains intact, generally, throughout the work. Students will quickly master the accompaniment pattern, affording them the basis to more fully devote attention to the melodic material and overall expressive character of the work. The pieces are consistently stimulating and colorful, emerging in Schultz’s attractive and unique contemporary style. The expressions are thoroughly and consistently pianistic, supportive of traditional piano technique, and present no unusual technical demands for the intermediate pianist. The editing, by Dr. Tina Faigen, is precise and consistent, providing a clear understanding of the application of touch, nuance and technique for each of the expressions.
